The Accrington Wildcats U9s traveled to Wigan on Sunday to take on an enthusiastic and talented St. Cuthbert's side. With only half a dozen players the match was reduced to 6-a-side on a suitably narrowed pitch.

The game started with some great drives by Max and Chase. Following an exchange of tries St Cuthbert's built up a healthy lead in the first quarter. The second quarter some some more great tackling and driving but with the Wildcats struggling to score their heads started to drop.
The half time team talk seemed to work as we crossed the line several times in the second half with effective driving and strong running. The tackling and ball playing out of the ruck is improving with every match and the play the balls are becoming much tidier as this small group of players start to gel and master the core skills taught in training.

Each player once again contributed to a decent overall performance against a competent opposition from the heartlands of the game. Jack's distribution from the play the ball was instrumental in setting up our strong attacking movements, Theo got stuck in at every opportunity be it in defense or attack and Raees made numerous darting runs and backed up in the tackle.

In a tough game the stand out performers were Edward whose strong running and magnificent 6 tries brought him the coaches award, Max whose strong drives and couple of tries brought the attacking and opposition award, and Chase whose enthusiastic tackling brought him the defence award.
